Year 2 Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We&#8217;re excited to share the remarkable progress made during year two of our multi-year <a href=\"https:\/\/mchb.hrsa.gov\/programs-impact\/programs\/healthy-tomorrows\">HRSA Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program (HTPCP)<\/a> grant, which funds our continued efforts to expand access to genetic healthcare across the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Expanded Patient Care and Community Impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This past year marked significant growth in our ability to serve those throughout Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.geneticsupportfoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/HRSA-Data-4.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4958\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Growth in patient services:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We completed over <strong>400<\/strong> patient visits, representing a <strong>23% <\/strong>increase over year one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We maintained our commitment to accessible care with <strong>37%<\/strong> of visits provided at no cost.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We expanded our reach with <strong>29%<\/strong> of patients referred by community-based clinics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Diverse care across the lifespan:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We saw a <strong>200% increase<\/strong> in preconception\/family planning consultations, helping families make informed decisions before pregnancy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We provided comprehensive genetic counseling spanning pediatrics, prenatal care, adult specialties including cardiology and neurology, and cancer genetics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We increased our support of families, with <strong>26%<\/strong> of patients seeking care related to a family member&#8217;s genetic testing results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strengthened Community Partnerships<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Strengthened collaboration across the region:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over <strong>27<\/strong> unique community-based clinic networks now refer patients to our services, up from 19 in the previous year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We formed active partnerships with patient and family groups such as <a href=\"https:\/\/ipulidaho.org\/\">Idaho Parents Unlimited<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We expanded relationships with state and regional medical and provider associations and specialty clinics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We joined a working group with <strong>Oregon&#8217;s newborn screening program<\/strong> to develop provider resources on hemoglobinopathy traits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Educational Resources and Outreach<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commitment to education and advocacy:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We created <strong>12<\/strong> new resources and updated existing materials to support <a href=\"https:\/\/geneticsupportfoundation.org\/patient-handouts\/\">patients<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/geneticsupportfoundation.org\/provider-handouts\/\">providers<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We reached <strong>thousands<\/strong> through presentations, conferences, community events, and social media outreach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.geneticsupportfoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/HRSA-Data-5.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4959\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Future Building<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, we will continue to focus on sustainability and expanding our impact by growing our organization and partnerships. We will also continue to actively advocate for improved genetic counseling access through support of federal legislation and state-level insurance reimbursement initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our progress since year one of the HTPCP grant demonstrates the power of community partnership and our shared commitment to ensuring that geography, income, and insurance status never stand in the way of accessing life-changing genetic services.
